Welcome to West Oxford Bowls Club
West Oxford Bowls Club (WOBC) is an outdoor flat green bowling club with six rinks situated in Botley Park Oxford City. The emphasis is on minimal formality and maximum enjoyment.The club was formed in 1924, and is affliliated to Bowls England and Bowls Oxfordshire.
In the Summer, May to September WOBC members play friendly games against other clubs in Oxfordshire, then adjourn for a tea, beer/wine and a chat about the game..
On Thursday evenings WOBC compete in the Oxford & District Men's league. Some members also enter County competitions.
WOBC has an active social committee that regularly organises social evenings with music, quiz nights, barbeques, bowls trips away and Christmas and New Year socials. The Club has a reputation locally for its lively social events that often attract folks from the locality and bowlers from other clubs.
Spectators and visitors are always welcome to pop in to watch Bowls and to maybe enjoy some refreshment from the Bar.
Why not give Bowls a try?
Mondays at 7pm between May and September are WOBC 'Open Evenings' when new players are welcome to try bowls. More experienced players have a practice and some play games in club competitions. Coaching is available on Mondays for beginners. In 2022 there are also some 'open days' Sat 7th and Sun 8th May plus Fri 27th May 5 - 8pm, Sat 28th May from 10am to 1-00pm and Sunday from 2-30pm.
WOBC has about 40 members. Membership fees are £75/annum for bowlers and £10/annum for Juniors and Social Members. New members are always welcome and can try bowling free of charge. New bowlers joining the club enjoy a reduced membership fee of £30 in their first year.
Club House Hire
Our Club House is available for Hire. It has a well stocked bar, a working kitchen, a good sound system and can comfortably accomodate around 80 people for functions. We get lots of repeat hires. Hirers say it creates a great party atmosphere.
